Carmelo Smith | Player Profile
Riverton Middle School | Wyoming Premier Hoops
Position: PG
Class: 2030
Carmelo Smith is one of the most athletic young players in Wyoming’s 2030 class and a name to keep an eye on as he continues to grow his game. A dynamic guard from Riverton Middle School, Carmelo brings speed, explosiveness, confidence, and natural scoring ability every time he steps on the floor.
During his 8th grade season, Carmelo averaged 18 points per game, showing that he can carry a scoring load and consistently put pressure on opposing defenses. He has the ability to create offense, attack gaps, get downhill, and turn defensive stops into fast-break opportunities. When he gets in the open floor, his speed and athleticism make him extremely hard to contain.
Carmelo has already proven himself on a big stage. In 2025, he was part of a Native American Junior Nationals championship team in Phoenix, Arizona, adding national tournament experience to his young résumé. That championship experience matters because it shows he has competed in high-level environments and knows what it takes to win against strong competition.
His athletic ability is one of the biggest things that separates him. Carmelo is not just quick with the ball — he is a true multi-sport athlete with track speed that translates directly to basketball. His sprinting ability, burst, body control, and conditioning allow him to push the pace, defend with energy, get out in transition, and make plays that not every young guard can make.
On the basketball court, Carmelo’s best weapon is his ability to attack. He can get to the basket, finish in transition, and put pressure on defenders before they are set. As he continues to develop his handle, jumper, strength, and decision-making, his ceiling becomes even higher.
Carmelo is still young, but he is already showing the tools of a special player. With his athleticism, scoring ability, championship experience, and competitive mindset, he has a chance to become one of the standout guards in the 2030 class.
This summer with Wyoming Premier Hoops will be a major opportunity for Carmelo to show his talent, build his name, and prove that he is one of the most exciting young athletes coming out of Riverton.
